Interpreter/Translator Volunteers Wanted!
We are looking for volunteers who would take part in interpretation and translation activities at Central Support facilities that would be set up in the event of a large scale disaster.

Moreover, we will be using the following textbook during volunteer trainings.
Foreign residents and municipality office staff may also use it as a reference.
English-Japanese and Chinese-Japanese versions have been revised for the 2016 fiscal year.
Korean-Japanese version is now available.

●Activity Details, Characteristics
  1. Operation and recruitment of volunteer is conducted based on the "Foreigner Support During a Disaster Network" being advance by the Kinki Council of Local Authorities for International Relations, which is composed of 5 Prefectures and 3 designated cities.
  2. Interpretation and translation activities will be conducted at central support facilities, such as Multilingual Support Centers, which would be set up in a disaster area (basically, limited to within the Kinki area) after an earthquake or any large-scale disaster.
  3. When requested the Kinki Council of Local Authorities for International Relations to support at an area outside the Kinki area where a large-scale disaster occurred, your cooperation in activities would be required.
  4. Necessary volunteer insurance and transportation fees will be paid by the dispatching association based on their own standards, but honorarium for the activities would not be paid.
  5. You will be asked to participate in a training held once a year to improve your skills asa volunteer.
●Application Requirements
  1. Those who can communicate in Japanese and a foreign language
    ※Minors have to get a letter of consent from their guardians.
    ※There are cases registration may not be accepted due to language proficiency, etc.
  2. Those who consent to activities in affected areas during a disaster (at that time, we will inquire if you can take part or not)
  3. Those who can participate in a training held once a year.
  4. Those who can actively cooperate in other activities aside from interpretation and translation in the Central Support Facilities
