■What is the International Understanding Education Foreign Supporters Dispatch Program?
At Osaka Foundation of International Exchange (OFIX), we register foreign residents as "supporters" and send them to elementary, junior and senior high schools within Osaka Prefecture. At these schools, supporters introduce their country's culture, history, dance, music, games and so on, to help deepen the understanding Japanese students have of foreign cultures. Would you like to become a supporter? For each visit supporters receive 6000 yen (transportation included) as honorarium.  OFIX is now accepting applications for the 2016 Osaka Invitational Program for Short-Term Overseas Trainees in Architecture and Arts. This program is designed to invite students and young professionals in the field of architecture or arts from countries and regions in Asia, with a view to fostering a better understanding of Japanese culture as well as contributing to the development of architecture and arts in their home countries.

Requirements Applicants must meet all the requirements as follows:
i )・Currently enrolled in, or a graduate of a graduate school program
  (Master's/PhD) majoring in architecture or related fields, or
  ・Holding a Bachelor's degree and also currently working in an

ii ) Have a high level of English proficiency to discuss and write about topics
  related to architecture. (TOEIC score of 800 or equivalent)

Outline As part of OFIX's efforts to support foreign residents to live more comfortably in Osaka, it is necessary to develop skills of volunteer interpreters and translators. Also since we live in a disaster-prone country, Japan, it is required to offer a multi-lingual disaster support for foreign residents in preparation for possible disaster, in addition to assistance in ordinary times. To this end, this training session is designed to cultivate human resources capable of playing an active role in supporting foreign residents in an event of a disaster.

  Evening junior high schools are seeking new students. Foreigners are also eligible for enrollment.
Evening junior high schools in Osaka accept foreign students as well.
Eligibility:
1) Those who are over the age of 15 (maximum age limits of compulsory school attendance in Japan)
2) Those who haven’t finished junior high school education
Those wishing to be enrolled in an evening junior high school in Osaka prefecture need to be residing in the prefecture.

School expenses: Tuition and textbooks are free of charge.
Travel expenses to and from school are partially covered for those who meet the prescribed income level.

OFIX is now accepting applications for 2014 Osaka Invitational Program for Short-Term Overseas Trainees in Architecture and Arts. The objective of this program is to invite students and young professionals in the field of architecture or arts from Asian countries to foster a deeper understanding of Japanese culture while contributing to the development of architecture and arts in their countries

 Qualifications
  i ) Must be either of the following:
    (1) Currently enrolled in OR a graduate of a graduate school program
      (Masters/PhD) majoring in architecture or a related field. Or
    (2) Have a Bachelor's degree and currently working as an architect or in a related
      field
  ii ) Must have a high level of English proficiency to discuss and write topics in
    architecture. (TOEIC score of 700 or equivalent)
  iii ) Applicant must not be over 35 years old at the time of application.
  iv ) Must be of an Asian nationality and currently residing in Asia.

Program Overview OFIX is training community interpreters who become bridges of communication between foreigners and staff of city hall and schools, so that foreigners living in each areas in Osaka will be able to overcome the language barrier and live comfortably. The next training will be held jointly by OFIX and the Kanan Board.

Osaka Foundation of International Exchange (OFIX) is looking for a native English speaking translator/interpreter of the English and Japanese languages.

<Description of Duties>
  1. Interpretation during Osaka Invitational Program for Oversea Trainees in Architecture and Arts between mid Sep and mid Oct.
  2. Translation, editorial supervision and proofreading for the final reports of the invitational program.
  3. Translation, editorial supervision, proofreading and other administrative tasks related to the projects of OFIX
<Required Qualification and skill>
Candidate must
  1. Be an experienced English to Japanese/Japanese to English translator and interpreter whose native language is English
  2. Have basic computer skills (word, excel, powerpoint etc)
  3. Be eligible to work in Japan, holding proper resident status, if the candidate is a foreigner
<Conditions>
Contract Period: From October 01, 2012 ~March 31, 2013 (starting day is negotiable)
Days: 3 days per week
Hours: 09:15~17:45 (lunch break: 45 min)
Holidays: Sat, Sun, National Holidays, Year-end/New year holidays (Dec 29 to Jan 3)

OFIX is now accepting applications of Osaka Invitational Program for Short-Term Overseas Trainees in Architecture and Arts. This project has invited students from various Asian countries majoring in architecture or arts so they can contribute to the development of architecture and arts in their countries, and at the same time, deepen their understanding and interests in Japanese culture.

  Qualifications
ⅰ) Must be either of the following:
(1) Currently enrolled in OR a graduate of a graduate school program (MA/PhD)
majoring in Architecture or a related field.
(2) Have a Bachelor's degree and currently working as an architect
or a related field
ⅱ) Must be fluent enough in English to discuss or write about architectural topics
  (TOEIC score of 800 or equivalent)
ⅲ) Applicant must not be over 35 years old
ⅳ) Must be of Asian nationality and currently residing in Asia.

 Guidance on the partial changes in the Immigration Act,
  followed by a questions and answers session
 We are seeking participants for the orientation on the revised Immigration Act, which will be held at Orion International House in Sakai.
 Some changes will be made to the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Law starting July 2012. With the scheduled revision, OFIX will hold an orientation on the newly introduced system for foreign residents. An immigration lawyer will be giving the presentation.

 The Counselor of the information Service and other organizations, a midwife, lawyer, and notary public will be available for consultation.

 We will be holding the "1-day Information Service", an event held yearly, to help foreigners living in Osaka solve the problems in their daily life cause by their inability to speak or understand Japanese well enough. To do this, the event will bring together specialized institutions that are closely related to the lives of foreigners and provide foreigners living in Osaka a 1-day free consultation service.
 At the event, through the support of volunteer interpreters, consultation and information is provided in 10 languages on the subjects of law, human rights, immigration and visas, labor, work, pension and health insurance, daily life, city administration, taxes, medical and dental topics, medicines, education, child rearing, and other general living topics.

 Information on the emergency accommodation for disaster-victims at Sakai International Hall (Orion International House) and Home-stay at OFIX volunteer families
 The Osaka Foundation of International Exchange (OFIX) offers temporary and short-term accommodation at Sakai International Hall (Orion International House) and at the home of an OFIX Home-stay family volunteer to foreigners affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, who are processing their travel overseas or moving into other facilities.
<Eligible applicants>
Foreigners affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, foreigners studying or working in the disaster-stricken area, foreigners who need temporary accommodation due to the effect of the quake.
<Accommodation Period>
Up to one week

  1. 1 Disaster Victim Certificate (Risai Shomeisho) or document which proves the applicant was studying or working at the disaster-stricken area.

The aim is to inform foreign residents about evacuation shelters which are used at times of natural disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons, through an overnight stay in a mock shelter, and the giving of lectures on related subjects. Meals provided will be emergency food used in such situations.
