Work hours・Over time

[Question]My working hours are supposed to be 9 to 5 under the employment contract. As it is, however, I have to work overtime about 20 hours a week. Are there no regulations about working hours?

The Labor Standards Law stipulates a forty-hour workweek and eight-hour workday. Depending on the industry and number of employees, however, there are provisions that apply. There are also situations in which more flexible working hours are recognized in the rules of employment or labor-management agreement, such as regarding allocation of working hours and number of holidays, to accommodate variations in the amount of work to be done.
